From rural West Otago beginnings
Calder Developments was established in 1980 by Stephen and Lynne Calder in Tapanui, West Otago.
Led by passion, vision and determination.
Stephen, a civil engineer, understood the value of high-quality construction and set about providing the local rural community with wool sheds, wintering sheds, covered yards and dairy sheds built to last.
As the company began to grow, along with the size of the jobs,
the small workshop in Tapanui had to be expanded several times to make room for the large-scale equipment required for the specialist steel fabrication work the company had become known for.
With business thriving in West Otago, Stephen began to look further afield and quickly recognised the opportunity for expansion into Central Otago during the early 2000s.
Commercial construction projects were soon underway and it was time to expand the team, recruiting in-house architectural and structural designers to help manage the fast-growing workload.
With the vision of a fully integrated service offering, Stephen set about the development of a large-scale precast facility in Cromwell.
Over the course of four decades,
Calder Developments evolved from a small rural construction business to a vertically integrated commercial construction company able to deliver the highest quality projects from concept to completion.
As well as a leading design and construction company, the business leads the way in steel and precast manufacturing.
In 2023, after a brand refresh, Calder Developments became what is now Calder Group.
Our ethos remains the same today as it was in 1980.
To provide expertise and a trusted partnership, and to successfully deliver, every time.
As we work together to create lasting value for all, it is the values and culture we share that really make Calder Group distinct. We take pride in them.
Our company has a proud history. We were established in 1980 in Tapanui, to provide the local rural community with high-quality woolsheds, wintering sheds, covered yards and dairy sheds built to last. Over the years we have steered successfully through major changes. It is a better company today than it has ever been.
We will take advantage of the opportunities the industry brings, exploring new industrial horizons and ways of creating value. From our earliest days in West Otago, we have pushed the boundaries of innovation and imagination in every part of our business. Now we are finding new ways to put that competence to work in transforming our company and our industry for the future.
